We take a look at Emery Walker (1851-1933), the ‘Universal Samaritan’ of England’s Arts and Crafts and private press movements of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which were both propelled and led by the remarkable creative hub on the north shore of the River Thames at Hammersmith, in which Walker was a principal player. Among his many contributions and influences, he was the vital component in William Morris’ late career flourish, the Kelmscott Press, and the co-founder of the Doves Press.

Simon Loxley is a graphic designer and writer. He was the founding editor and designer of the St Bride Library journal , Ultrabold, (2006-2021). His book Emery Walker: arts, crafts and a world in motion, was published by Oak Knoll Press in 2019.
