When consulting books or other items in the Library, you may wish to take a copy. We do allow photographs to be taken provided that it is done without the use of flash and certain items may also be photocopied. You might be asked to sign a copyright declaration before making copies or taking photographs.
However, this can only be done in accordance with the laws of copyright. These allow you to copy part of a book/journal for private study and non-commercial research. As a general guide, you can make a single copy to the following limits:
Very old or delicate items or tightly-bound books may not be photocopied.

The Gibson Library is a registered charity (Registered Charity in England and Wales No. 310665). The Gibson Library Trust owns both the collections and the building which houses the Library.
Its charitable aims are:
The maintenance and improvement of the library
The provision of library facilities additional to those normally provided by the council under the public libraries and museums act 1964
Essex County Council are the sole trustees and work with the Gibson Library Society to run and maintain the Library and its collections.
