In his talk Jonathan discussed how witchcraft cases in Elizabethan Essex were reported in pamphlets of the time and what readers might have made of the strange stories they were told.

Jonathan Durrant is a historian who has written and taught widely on witchcraft in Germany and England in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including Witchcraft, Gender and Society in Early Modern Germany (2007) and the second edition of Historical Dictionary of Witchcraft (2012), co-edited with Michael Bailey. He is currently writing a book on witchcraft in world history.
